Clickbait

When family man Nick Brewer is abducted in a crime with a sinister online twist, those closest to him race to uncover who is behind it and why.

Clickbait (2021) is an Australian-American co-produced crime thriller miniseries created by Christian White and Tony Ayres for Netflix. Across eight episodes of roughly forty-eight minutes each, the story follows family man Nick Brewer (Adrian Grenier), whose sudden abduction is tied to a sinister online twist that spreads through viral footage and public speculation. His wife Pia Brewer (Zoe Kazan) and the wider family, including sister Sophie Brewer (Betty Gabriel), are drawn into a frantic search to learn who is behind the kidnapping and why. Each episode shifts perspective between family members and outsiders, so the viewer watches private secrets, hidden infidelities and sibling tensions surface alongside the public hunt for answers. The engine of the series is the race against time combined with the gradual exposure of what Nick kept hidden, and the online audience becomes a force of its own. Set in contemporary San Francisco and its surroundings, the show carries a tense, unsettling atmosphere shaped by modern digital anxieties. Its mix of psychological thriller pacing and domestic drama recalls the family secret intrigue of Big Little Lies and the shifting perspectives of The Affair, appealing to viewers who enjoy a self-contained, twisty puzzle with emotional stakes.

Audiences rate the miniseries positively, praising its gripping social-media-driven mystery and its engaging family-centered thriller tension.
