The Suspect (2022) is a British psychological thriller limited series created by Peter Berry for ITV1. Aidan Turner plays Joe O'Loughlin, a clinical psychologist who appears to have a flawless career and home life, and whose carefully ordered world begins to fray as a loose thread pulls him toward danger. Around him, DI Vince Ruiz (Shaun Parkes) and Detective Wallis (Imogen Daines) lead a police investigation in which every apparent certainty is open to doubt, while DS Riya Devi (Anjli Mohindra) and Catherine McCain (Tara Lee) add pressure from the edges of the case. The engine of the story is the gap between how a respectable professional presents himself and what he is concealing, and each episode tightens the vice a little further. Told across five long episodes in a single run, the series is a contained, serialized mystery with the feel of a prestige British drama. Its tone is tense, paranoid and claustrophobic, with an undercurrent of unease that lingers after each hour. Fans of The Sinner, Big Little Lies and Broadchurch will find the same mix of domestic unease and slow-burning investigation.
