From Scratch

An artist finds romance with a chef in Italy and embarks on a life-changing journey of love, loss, resilience and hope across cultures and continents.

From Scratch (2022) is an American limited series created by Attica Locke for Netflix. Zoe Saldaña plays artist Amy Wheeler, whose romance with Italian chef Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea) takes her to Italy, where the relationship is tested across cultures and continents. Danielle Deadwyler plays Zora Wheeler, Amy's sister, whose bond with her frames the family history behind the journey, while Keith David and Judith Scott anchor the family at home. The engine of the story is Amy's search for a life that holds both love and her own identity, as she navigates a new country, a new family and the losses that shadow her past. Across eight hour-long episodes, the series moves between intimate kitchen scenes, sunlit Italian streets and reflective moments of grief and hope. Its tone is warm and wistful, emphasizing resilience, belonging and the difficulty of starting over. Viewers who enjoy Eat Pray Love, This Is Us and Under the Tuscan Sun will find a similar blend of romance, food and emotional family drama. The eight-episode run unfolds as a single continuing story, giving the romance room to breathe and the family conflicts space to resolve.

Audiences rated the miniseries positively, praising its romance, its emotional sweep across Italy and the United States, and its lead performances.
