Tengoku Daimakyo (2023) is a Japanese seinen anime series produced by Production I.G and based on a manga, a single-season run of thirteen episodes. Set in a future version of 2024 Japan, the story follows Kiruko, an odd-job girl in Nakano who accepts a mysterious woman's dying wish to deliver a boy named Maru to a place called Heaven. Voiced by Sayaka Senbongi as Kiruko and Gen Sato as Maru, the pair travel through a collapsed landscape where grotesque monsters lurk amongst the ruins and surviving people scrape together whatever they can to endure. Maru insists a boy who looks exactly like him waits at the destination, and that belief pulls the journey forward. Each episode builds on the uneasy partnership between the two, with Hibiku Yamamura as Tokio and Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Kona adding further voices to the wider world. The tone is bleak and unsettling yet curious, with strange mysteries layered over a dystopian survival adventure. Fans of Attack on Titan, The Promised Neverland and Knights of Sidonia will find resonance in its grim future setting, its monstrous threats and its quest-driven pull.
