Onimusha

With a demonic, soul-consuming weapon in hand, can a legendary swordsman and a samurai brotherhood defeat a bloodthirsty zombie uprising?

Onimusha (2023) is a Japanese adult animated action series created for Netflix, produced by Sublimation and adapted from the Capcom video game franchise. Its eight episodes of roughly 27 minutes form a single limited miniseries. The voice cast includes Akio Otsuka as Musashi Miyamoto, Hochu Otsuka as Kensuke Matsui, Daiki Yamashita as Sahei, and Subaru Kimura as Goro-Maru, with Toshihiko Seki as Kojiro Sasaki. The engine of the story is a fight for survival against a bloodthirsty zombie uprising, as a legendary swordsman and a samurai brotherhood must wield a demonic weapon that consumes the soul of whoever carries it. Each episode is built around brutal set-piece battles, gore-soaked skirmishes, and tense pursuits through a haunted feudal landscape. The mood is grim and visceral, with a propulsive pace and an undercurrent of dread and sacrifice.
