Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street

This docuseries follows the rise and fall of financier Bernie Madoff, who orchestrated one of the biggest Ponzi schemes in Wall Street history.

Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street (2023) is an American true crime docuseries created for Netflix as a four-episode limited series. It follows the rise and fall of financier Bernie Madoff, the Wall Street figure whose vast Ponzi scheme drew in investors for decades before collapsing. The engine of the series is the slow unravelling of a trusted name in finance, told through interviews with insiders who worked alongside him, victims who lost their savings, and watchdogs who spent years trying to alert the authorities. Each episode of roughly fifty-five minutes builds a fuller picture of how the deception was sustained, moving from the polished public image of a respected market figure to the machinery of the fraud beneath it. Its tone is sober, investigative and often grim, with a focus on the human cost of financial deception. The series is built on documentary testimony rather than dramatization, so its power comes from accounts of people who were there. Fans of The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, The Dropout and Making a Murderer will find resonance in its patient, evidence-driven examination of a deception that fooled almost everyone around it.

Viewers broadly find this four-part docuseries a definitive, well-sourced account of Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme, rated positively by audiences.
