Gülcemal

The story revolves around the love that begins with hatred between Gülcemal, whom his mother abandoned and turned into a dark monster when he was young, and the beautiful Dev, who becomes engulfed in a whirlwind of fire, passion, and storm. In Gülcemal's battle with his mother, will an unexpected love or the years of hatred he has harbored prevail? Will Gülcemal, on this road full of sacrifices, turn from being a cruel hunter to prey out in the open? And what about Deva? When she finally surrenders, will she realize that this love is impossible?

Gülcemal (2023) is a Turkish melodrama series created by Yusuf Pirhasan for FOX, a single-season limited run of thirteen long episodes. Murat Ünalmış plays Gülcemal Şahin, a hardened man raised in bitterness after his mother abandoned him, who has grown into a feared and cruel hunter. Melis Sezen plays Deva Nakkaşoğlu, a striking woman drawn into a whirlwind of fire, passion and storm around him. Their relationship begins in open hostility and a grudge nursed for years, and the engine of the story is whether that hatred can give way to an unexpected love while Gülcemal wrestles with his mother, his past and the sacrifices his path demands. Supporting roles are filled by Ayda Aksel as Zafer Pehlivan, Edip Tepeli as Mert Çakır and Nilay Erdönmez as Gülendam Şahin, whose family and rivalries press on the central pair. Each long episode builds emotional confrontations, betrayals and reconciliations in the classic Turkish melodrama manner. The tone is intense, romantic and melancholic, with a sense of destiny pulling against wounded pride. Fans of Kara Sevda and Fatmagül'ün Suçu Ne? will find resonance in its doomed passion and family-rooted vengeance.

Audiences found the passionate, melodramatic love story between a vengeful hunter and a fiery heroine engaging, with mixed critical signal given its single season.
