The Last Night at Tremore Beach

When a tormented pianist is struck by lightning, he begins having perilous visions of his future and a deadly threat seems to loom over his loved ones.

The Last Night at Tremore Beach (2024) is a Spanish psychological thriller miniseries created by Oriol Paulo and Jordi Vallejo for Netflix, adapted from a novel. Javier Rey plays Alex de la Fuente, a tormented pianist whose life is upended when lightning strikes him and he begins having perilous visions of what is coming. Ana Polvorosa plays Judie Garmendia and Guillermo Toledo plays Leo Bazan, principal figures around him as a deadly threat seems to loom over his loved ones. The engine of the show is the protagonist's effort to understand his visions and act on them before the danger arrives, with each episode unspooling the secrets and fears that tighten around his family. Told across a single eight-episode run of roughly seventy-minute chapters, it is one continuing story rather than a case of the week. The tone is foreboding and tense, with a melancholy undercurrent running beneath the mystery. Its atmosphere and psychological unease will appeal to viewers who enjoy the slow-burning dread of The Vanishing and the serialized puzzles of Dark, set in a modern Spanish milieu.

Audiences give this Spanish miniseries a mixed-to-positive response, with its twisty psychological thriller hook landing better than its later reveals.

• The Vanishingpsychological thriller tension, visions of looming danger, family under threat
• Darkserialized mystery with foreboding atmosphere and secrets within a family
• The Killingpsychological thriller built on a protagonist's unreliable grip on events and escalating dread
