Degrassi

The life of a group of adolescents going through the trials and tribulations of teendom at Degrassi Community School.

Degrassi (2001-2015) is a Canadian teen drama series created by Yan Moore and Linda Schuyler, broadcast on Much, CTV and MTV Canada. Set at Degrassi Community School in Toronto, it follows a shifting group of adolescents whose friendships, romances and rivalries drive every season. Spinner Mason (Shane Kippel) and Emma Nelson (Miriam McDonald) anchor the early years, joined by Jimmy Brooks (Drake), Paige Michalchuk (Lauren Collins) and Holly Sinclair (Charlotte Arnold). The engine of the show is ordinary high school life pushed to extremes: dating, cliques, school politics and the sudden weight of pregnancy, addiction and family breakdown arriving in the middle of a school day. Storylines unfold across a long serialized run, with a cast that rotates as students graduate and new classmates arrive. Episodes run about twenty-two minutes and the tone swings between breezy and earnest, warm and sharp. Fans of Beverly Hills, 90210, My So-Called Life and Dawson's Creek will find the same mix of melodrama and sincere teen emotion, grounded in a recognisably Canadian high school setting.

Audiences broadly regard the early seasons as a sincere, emotionally direct portrait of teen life that later seasons failed to sustain.
