Fraggle Rock

The Fraggles are a fun-loving community of creatures who live in a subterranean fantasy land where they love to play, sing and dance their cares away, sharing their world with the tiny Doozers and the giant Gorgs. The series teaches empathy and tolerance and encourages children to understand people different from themselves.

Fraggle Rock (1983-1987) is a Canadian-American family fantasy puppet series created by Jim Henson for HBO, produced with CBC and Henson Associates. Set in a subterranean fantasy land, the series follows the fun-loving Fraggles, a community of creatures who play, sing and dance their cares away. Red Fraggle, voiced and performed by Karen Prell, is restless and curious about the world beyond her home, while Gobo Fraggle, performed by Jerry Nelson, is an adventurous explorer who follows her lead. Gerard Parkes plays Doc, the human who watches over the burrow and anchors the story. Each half-hour episode is a self-contained adventure in which the Fraggles meet the tiny, industrious Doozers who build as they go and the giant, clumsy Gorgs who loom over the cavern, and the stories turn on misunderstanding and the slow work of reaching across difference. The series runs five seasons and ninety-six episodes in a case-of-the-week format. Its tone is whimsical, warm and comforting, with musical numbers sprinkled throughout, and its gentle wonder recalls Sesame Street and The Dark Crystal. Fans of Sesame Street and Bluey will find the same cozy, lesson-rich charm here.

Audiences broadly regard Fraggle Rock as a warm, inventive children's puppet series whose later seasons won the strongest approval.
