More about the show
Overview
Pumuckl is a Kobold from a German radio play series for children. He is a descendant of the Klabautermänner. He is invisible to people around him except for the master carpenter Eder with whom Pumuckl lives. Pumuckl was invented by Ellis Kaut for a radio play series of the Bavarian Radio in 1961. Later on it was turned into a very successful TV series. Three movies and a musical also deal with the adventures of the little kobold. Pumuckl is one of the most popular characters in children's entertainment in Germany and several generations have now grown up with the cheeky but funny little Kobold.
Master Eder and his Pumuckl (1982-1989) is a German children's family comedy created by Ellis Kaut and Ulrich König for Das Erste. Its warm, gently mischievous world centers on master carpenter Eder, played by Gustl Bayrhammer, a patient craftsman who shares his workshop and home with Pumuckl, a cheeky kobold invisible to everyone except him. Hans Clarin voices the sprite, whose endless pranks and tinkering disrupt Eder's orderly life and the daily routines of his workshop. Supporting characters including Mrs. Eichinger, played by Erni Singerl, and Toni Schmitt, played by Toni Berger, surround the pair with neighborly friction and affection. Each episode is a self-contained short story of mishaps, misunderstandings and small repairs, with the running gag of an unseen companion driving the humor. The two-season run spans 52 episodes of roughly twenty-five minutes each. Drawn from Ellis Kaut's radio plays, the show carries the cozy, nostalgic register of German family television and a lightly folkloric charm. Fans of Bewitched, Mrs. Doubtfire and The Munsters will find a similar wholesome supernatural household comedy.
