Ugly Americans

Social worker Mark Lilly helps new citizens—both human and "other"—begin the process of adapting to life in the Big Apple, but his coworkers, demonic bureaucrat Twayne, drunken wizard Leonard Powers, surly law enforcement head Frank Grimes & his girlfriend, Callie, don't make it easy.

Ugly Americans (2010-2012) is an American adult animated comedy series created by David M. Stern and Devin Clark for Comedy Central. Social worker Mark Lilly (Matt Oberg) is tasked with helping new citizens, both human and otherworldly, settle into life in New York City. His job is made harder by a cast of coworkers, including demonic bureaucrat Twayne Boneraper (Michael-Leon Wooley), drunken wizard Leonard Powers (Randy Pearlstein), surly police lieutenant Frank Grimes (Larry Murphy) and his girlfriend Callie (Natasha Leggero). The engine of the show is the collision of bureaucratic routine with supernatural chaos, as each episode turns a mundane casework assignment into an absurd, often crude misadventure. Running for two seasons and thirty-one half-hour episodes, it moves as a largely episodic comedy with some continuing threads among the office staff. The tone is cynical, irreverent and deadpan, with a satirical edge toward urban life and institutional indifference. Its animation is loose and cartoonish, and its humor will appeal to viewers who enjoyed Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Futurama and Archer. Fans of sharp, profane workplace satire will find it an offbeat, quickly paced example of the form.

Reception is broadly positive, with the first season well liked for its irreverent satire and the second season widely seen as a steep drop in quality.
