InuYasha

Kagome Higurashi is a modern day young girl who lives with her family by the old Higure shrine. Unbeknownst to Kagome, she is the reincarnation of priestess Kikyo and posseses the "Jewel of Four Souls" (the Shikon jewel). One ill-fated day, Kagome locates an ancient well near her home and is abruptly transported through the well and into a feudal Japan, inhabited by demons. There, she encounters Inuyasha, son of a powerful demon father and a human mother, who is pinned to a tree by an enchanted arrow.

InuYasha (2000-2010) is a Japanese animated fantasy adventure series created as a Sunrise production for ANIMAX, Nippon TV and YTV, adapted from the manga by Rumiko Takahashi. Modern schoolgirl Kagome Higurashi (voiced by Satsuki Yukino) is pulled through an ancient well into feudal Japan, where she meets the sullen half-demon InuYasha (Kappei Yamaguchi), pinned to a tree by an enchanted arrow. Together with the monk Miroku (Koji Tsujitani), the demon slayer Sango (Houko Kuwashima) and the fox child Shippo, they hunt demons and chase fragments of the shattered Shikon jewel, which grants great power to whoever holds it. The engine of the show is the uneasy pull between Kagome and InuYasha, complicated by her past-life bond with the priestess Kikyo, while the villain Naraku keeps scattering the jewel's shards across the land. The series runs as one long serialized story of 193 episodes across two seasons, mixing episodic village monster battles with season-long arcs. Its tone blends playful banter and warm friendship with bloody battles, melancholic longing and a bittersweet undercurrent. Set in a Sengoku-era Japan of villages, shrines and forests, it offers a sweeping, romantic take on the shonen action adventure. Fans of Naruto, Hunter x Hunter and Fushigi Yuugi will find resonance here.

Audiences broadly rate InuYasha as a well-loved, positively received anime, with its romance and action drawing praise.
