Het Eiland

Michelle, Guido and Frankie have been co-workers and close friends for years. But when their boss gets fired, Guido gets a promotion and is replaced by the odd Alain Van Damme. No normal day passes on this work floor where impossible situations, hilarious moments and odd people are just a daily thing.

Het Eiland (2004-2005) is a Belgian Flemish workplace sitcom created by Jan Eelen for VRT 1. Friends and coworkers Michelle, Guido and Frankie share a daily grind on an office floor until their boss is fired, Guido is promoted, and the odd Alain Van Damme arrives to take his old place. Played by Frank Focketyn as Guido Pallemans, Dirk van Dijck as Michel Drets, Wim Opbrouck as Frankie Loosveld and Tom van Dyck as Alain Vandam, the ensemble builds its comedy from impossible situations and strange personalities. The show runs across two seasons and thirteen half-hour episodes, each built from small office crises and awkward encounters on the work floor. Its tone is light, breezy and warmly absurd, with the friendships at its core giving the chaos a comforting center. Viewers who enjoy the cringe-tinged office humor of The Office and the ensemble awkwardness of Extras will find resonance here, in a compact, character-driven Flemish workplace comedy.
