Overview

Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne (2008) is a Japanese animated seinen miniseries produced by XEBEC and GENCO and broadcast on AT-X. Its protagonist, Rin Asogi (voice by Mamiko Noto), looks like an ordinary office worker but runs a private investigation business that takes any job, from finding a missing pet to infiltrating a high-security corporate laboratory. Her partner Mimi (voice by Rie Kugimiya) works alongside her, and the case-driven engine of the show is their pursuit of society's darkest secrets, while the more dangerous mysteries turn out to be those Rin hides about herself. Her near-total physical invulnerability, which heals injuries and mutilations almost instantly, makes every confrontation feel dangerous and bloody. The six-episode run plays out as a single continuing story rather than unrelated cases, with a cyberpunk city of corporate conspiracies, gunfights and martial arts action. The tone is dark, violent and unsettling, with a tech noir atmosphere and a melancholic undercurrent. Viewers who enjoy Ghost in the Shell and Blade Runner, or the grisly supernatural edge of Hellsing Ultimate, will find much to appreciate here.
