A Gentleman's Dignity

Four men with complicated love lives refuse to admit they're getting older, and attempt to prove that forty is the new thirty!

A Gentleman's Dignity (2012) is a South Korean romantic comedy drama created by Kim Eun-sook for SBS. Its tight twenty-episode run follows four close male friends, led by Kim Do Jin (Jang Dong-gun), who insist that forty is the new thirty and stubbornly refuse to admit they are getting older. Their engine is the tangle of complicated love lives, from awkward crushes to ill-timed romances, that keeps pulling them into new attempts to look and act young. Kim Ha-neul plays Seo Yi-soo, one of the women whose presence unsettles their fragile self-image, and Kim Soo-ro, Kim Min-jong and Lee Jong-hyun round out the circle of friends. Each episode is built from dinners, workplace rivalries, and late-night confessions around Seoul, where pride and vulnerability trade places quickly. The show leans on breezy banter and warm sincerity, with a wistful undertow about time passing and the fear of being left behind. Fans of Sex and the City, Friends and Full House will find resonance in its mix of glossy urban romance, ensemble friendship and wry comedy about love later in life.

Audiences rated the single season positively, praising its glamorous cast and light romantic comedy take on midlife romance.
