Overview
Marc Maron has been a comedian for 25 years. He’s had his problems. He was an angry, drunk, self involved, twice divorced compulsive mess for most of his adult life, but with the popularity of a podcast he does in his garage and a life of sobriety, his life and career are turning around. MARON explores a fictionalized version of Marc’s life, his relationships, and his career, including his incredibly popular WTF podcast, which features conversations Marc conducts with celebrities and fellow comedians. Neurosis intact, Maron is uniquely fascinating, absolutely compelling and brutally funny.
Maron (2013-2016) is an American cable comedy series created by Marc Maron for IFC. Marc Maron plays a fictionalized version of himself, a veteran stand-up comedian who has spent decades as an angry, drunk, twice divorced mess. Now sober, he records the WTF podcast in his garage, interviewing celebrities and fellow comedians, and the show follows his attempts to rebuild his career and relationships. Lindsey and Emily, two women in his life, drift in and out of his orbit, while Conan O'Brien and Elliott Gould appear as themselves in guest turns that play on the real world of comedy. The series runs for four seasons of 49 episodes in a 22-minute format, with each episode built from small domestic and professional missteps rather than a single case or a grand arc. Tone is brutally funny and intimately awkward, with a neurotic, self-involved protagonist whose wounds are never fully healed. Its portrait of a midlife comic trying to stay sober and stay honest is in the vein of Curb Your Enthusiasm and Louie, and fans of those shows will find resonance in its cringe-prone, self-lacerating humor.
