Dicte

Newly divorced journalist returns to her hometown to restart her life and work through her past.

Dicte (2013-2016) is a Danish crime drama series created by Kasper Barfoed and Elsebeth Egholm, broadcast on TV 2 and produced by Miso Film. Iben Hjejle stars as Dicte Svendsen, a newly divorced journalist who returns to her hometown to restart her life and work through her past. Her reporting pulls her into murder investigations alongside police colleague John Wagner (Lars Brygmann) and Anne Skov Larsen (Lærke Winther), and the tension between her professional drive and her personal history gives each season its engine. Across three seasons of ten episodes each, the series unfolds as one continuing story rather than a case-of-the-week format, with each season deepening the investigations and the protagonist's relationships. The atmosphere is cold, somber and restrained, with a bleak provincial Danish setting that feels isolated and watchful. Its tone is serious and character driven, with dread and emotional weight carried by quiet domestic moments as much as by the crimes themselves. Fans of The Killing, The Bridge and Broadchurch will find resonance in its Scandinavian crime sensibility, its journalist protagonist and its slow, morally weighted storytelling.

Audiences rate the Danish crime drama positively, valuing its journalist protagonist and small-town mystery.

• The Killing (2007)shared scandinavian crime drama tone, journalist protagonist investigating local murders
• The Bridgeshared danish crime drama register, serialized investigation with personal stakes
• Broadchurchshared journalist-driven investigative thriller structure and brooding small community tension
