Little Angel Face

Dulce María is like her name, a sweet 5-year-old girl, full of joy and good feelings. With the death of his mother, his father, Luciano Larios, sinks into depression and pain, and decides to distance himself from everything and everyone. He admits Dulce María to the "Queen of America" nuns' school and goes abroad, leaving her in the care of her brother Gabriel, who is a priest. The only visit the girl receives is from her beloved Aunt Estefanía, whom she affectionately calls "Aunt Wigs" because instead of showing her hair, she wears colored wigs that match her clothes.

Little Angel Face (2000-2001) is a Mexican telenovela created by Kary Fajer for Las Estrellas, produced by Televisa. Its heart is Dulce Maria, a sweet five-year-old played by Daniela Aedo, whose joy and good feelings are never quite extinguished even as her world fractures. After the death of her mother, her father Luciano Larios, played by Miguel de Leon, sinks into depression and pulls away from everyone, so he admits Dulce Maria to the Queen of America nuns' school and leaves the country. Her uncle, the priest Gabriel Larios Rocha, played by Manuel Saval, becomes her protector, while her beloved Aunt Estefania, played by Nora Salinas, visits in colorful wigs that match her outfits and earns the nickname Tia Pelucas. The engine of the story is a child's stubborn kindness pressing against adult grief, pride and the quarrels of a divided family, and each chapter is built from school life, small betrayals, reunions and emotional reversals typical of the form. Set in contemporary Mexico, the series moves with the sugary, melodramatic register of Latin American television, mixing tenderness, comedy and tearful sentiment. Fans of Marimar and Maria la del Barrio will find resonance in its family melodrama, though its tone is gentler and aimed at younger viewers. Its single season of 175 episodes plays as a complete, self-contained arc rather than an open-ended saga.

Audiences rated this Televisa telenovela moderately well, with a mixed aggregate reception centred on its sweet heroine and melodramatic family storyline.
