Witches of East End

The adventures of Joanna Beauchamp and her two adult daughters Freya and Ingrid -- both of whom unknowingly are their family's next generation of witches -- who lead seemingly quiet, uneventful modern day lives in Long Island's secluded seaside town of East Haven. When Freya becomes engaged to a young, wealthy newcomer, a series of events forces Joanna to admit to her daughters they are, in fact, powerful and immortal witches.

Witches of East End (2013-2014) is an American supernatural family drama series created by Maggie Friedman for Lifetime. Julia Ormond plays Joanna Beauchamp, a centuries-old witch who has raised her two adult daughters, Freya (Jenna Dewan) and Ingrid (Rachel Boston), in the quiet seaside town of East Haven on Long Island while keeping their immortal heritage hidden from them. The engine of the show is the strain of concealment: when Freya becomes engaged to a wealthy newcomer, Killian Gardiner (Daniel Di Tomasso), the family's secrets begin to crack, and Joanna must reveal to her daughters that they are powerful witches. Each episode blends small town domestic routines with occult mysteries, romance and rival magical threats, and the storylines accumulate across two seasons of thirteen and ten episodes. Eric Winter plays the doctor Dash Gardiner and Virginia Madsen plays Penelope Gardiner, while Mädchen Amick appears as Wendy Beauchamp. The tone is moody and sultry, with a soapy, melodramatic edge and an atmosphere of coastal dread. Fans of Charmed, The Vampire Diaries and Sabrina the Teenage Witch will find resonance in its blend of witchcraft, family loyalty and romantic entanglement. The series was canceled after its second season, leaving its central story unfinished.

Audiences rated the series positively, with a fantasy premise of immortal witches in a Long Island town praised for its family dynamics and mystery, though it was never a major critical hit.
