Akame ga Kill! (2014) is a Japanese animated dark fantasy action series produced by White Fox and C-Station and aired on TOKYO MX, adapted from a manga and presented as a single 24-episode season. Young Tatsumi (voiced by Soma Saito) travels to the imperial capital to earn money for his starving village and instead finds a rotting court run by a ruthless Prime Minister who holds the child Emperor in his grip. Recruited by Night Raid, a small crew of assassins that includes the stoic swordswoman Akame (Sora Amamiya) and the sharp-tongued Mine (Yukari Tamura), Tatsumi learns to take lives in order to target corrupt officials and privileged nobles. Each mission pits the team against the empire's guards and special fighters in stylized battles where every member's unique ability matters. The show's engine is the tension between idealism and the cost of killing, carried through a blood-soaked, grim tone with dark tragedy and sudden brutality. Its fantasy setting feels like a medieval imperial world drawn from a fictional era rather than any real history. Fans of Attack on Titan, Game of Thrones and Hitman will find resonance in its bleak politics, ruthless violence and assassin-driven rebellion.

Audiences rate it as a positive, action-driven dark fantasy with strong set pieces and a bleak tone, though its grim register and character development draw mixed responses.

• Attack on Titanshared dark fantasy action, corrupt empire and violent rebellion tones
• Hitmanshared assassin protagonists and grim revolutionary vigilante premise
