Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma

Young chef Soma enters the prestigious Totsuki Culinary Academy, where he must emerge victorious in over-the-top cooking battles or face expulsion.

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma (2015-2020) is a Japanese animated comedy-drama series produced by J.C.STAFF and broadcast on TBS, a shonen anime adapted from the manga. Young home cook Soma Yukihira (Yoshitsugu Matsuoka) enters the prestigious Totsuki Culinary Academy, a school where students must win over-the-top cooking duels or face expulsion. Soma's ambition drives him through a ladder of rivals, including the proud heiress Erina Nakiri (Risa Taneda) and the ambitious Alice Nakiri (Chinatsu Akasaki), while his classmate Megumi Tadokoro (Minami Takahashi) grounds the group. Each episode is built around a single culinary battle, judged by stern instructors, with dishes rendered through exaggerated reactions and vivid food spectacle. Across five seasons and 86 episodes the series becomes a serialized rivalry saga in which the stakes and the menu escalate steadily. The tone is brash, playful and often bawdy, with moments of earnest camaraderie underneath the bombast. Fans of Hunter x Hunter, Yakitate!! Japan and Chef will find resonance in its blend of competitive spectacle and culinary passion.

Audiences broadly rate the series positively for its over-the-top cooking battles and food spectacle, with ratings holding steady across the early seasons before softening slightly.
