Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps

The lives of five loveable, 20-somethings are followed in the northern town of Runcorn in Cheshire, England, where the friends meet often at a local pub to chat about life and love.

Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps (2001-2011) is a British sitcom created by Susan Nickson for BBC Two, BBC Choice and BBC Three. Set in the northern town of Runcorn in Cheshire, England, it follows a tight circle of loveable twenty-somethings who gather at their local pub to talk about life and love. Will Mellor plays Gaz, Kathryn Drysdale plays Louise, Sheridan Smith plays Janet, Ralf Little plays Jonny and Natalie Casey plays Donna, and their friendships are the heart of the show. The engine is ordinary young adult life: dating disasters, flatshare friction, jobs that go nowhere and the constant need to find someone to love. Each episode is a half hour built from pub conversations that turn into sexual innuendo, blunt vulgarity and comic bickering. Across nine seasons the show stays a loose, episodic comedy rather than a single arc. Its tone is bawdy, breezy and affectionate, with a working class northern sensibility that fans of Peep Show, Friends and Shameless will find familiar. The result is a warm, rude and very British hangout comedy.

• Peep Showshared british sitcom tones, group of friends comedy, crude northern humour
• Friendsshared sitcom format about young friends navigating dating and work in britain
• Shamelessshared northern english setting, working class young adults, cringe and bawdy comedy
