Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City

A new set of six men and women start their lives together under one roof. All they get is a fabulous home and a car. As always, there is no script.

Terrace House: Boys & Girls in the City (2015-2016) is a Japanese reality series created for Netflix and Fuji TV. Six young men and women start their lives together under one roof in a stylish Tokyo home, with a car provided and no script to follow. The engine of the show is the slow unfolding of attraction, friendship and friction among housemates who are simply trying to figure out how to live together. Each episode is built from candid everyday moments: shared meals, late conversations, work and social plans, and the small arguments and confessions that emerge when strangers share a space. Viewers follow the house as a single continuing social experiment rather than a case-of-the-week format, and the single season of forty-six episodes gives the story room to develop. Commentators watch the footage with light, teasing asides, which gives the show an observational, warm tone. The look is clean and intimate, with natural lighting and unforced camera work. Fans of Ainori: Love Wagon, Big Brother and Love Island will find the same appeal in strangers forced into close quarters, where romance and personality play out in real time. The show is a relaxed, binge-friendly companion for anyone who enjoys unscripted romance.

Viewers praise Terrace House as an addictively binge-watchable, unscripted look at young people sharing a home, though reception data is limited.
