Non Non Biyori

Elementary school student Hotaru Ichijou has moved with her parents from Tokyo to the middle of the country. Now she must adapt to her new school, where there are a total of 5 students in the same class who range through elementary and middle school ages. Join their everyday adventures in the countryside.

Non Non Biyori (2013-2021) is a Japanese animated slice of life comedy produced by Silver Link and broadcast on TV Tokyo. Elementary school student Hotaru Ichijou (voiced by Rie Murakawa) moves from Tokyo to a rural town with her parents and joins a classroom of only five students spanning elementary and middle school ages. Her closest companions include the outgoing Renge Miyauchi (voiced by Kotori Koiwai) and the bold Komari Koshigaya (voiced by Kana Asumi), along with an older sibling figure, Kazuho Miyauchi (voiced by Kaori Nazuka). The engine of the series is nothing more than everyday life: a trip to a nearby town, a summer festival, a snowy afternoon, a bit of mischief in the schoolyard. Each episode is a self-contained vignette rather than a plot, so viewers can settle into any stretch of the run. The show spans three seasons across thirty-six episodes, with the countryside serving as a gentle, unhurried backdrop. The tone is warm, soothing and wistful, with comic beats that arrive quietly rather than loudly. Fans of Barakamon, Laid-Back Camp and Hanasaku Iroha will find the same healing pleasure in small rural moments and friendships.

Audiences broadly embrace the series as a gentle, warm slice of life that rewards relaxed viewing, with its rural charm and easygoing humor drawing consistently positive reactions across seasons.
