Stories by Rabindranath Tagore

The characters of Tagore’s stories spring into life through the cinematic imagination of acclaimed filmmaker, Anurag Basu in ‘Stories By Rabindranath Tagore’. ‘Stories By Rabindranath Tagore’ shares with us the intricately etched characters created by the master himself and brought onto the small screen by the visionary director of ‘Barfi’ and ‘Life in a Metro.’

Stories by Rabindranath Tagore (2015) is an Indian anthology series created by Anurag Basu for EPIC. Adapting the short stories of the Bengali literary master Rabindranath Tagore, it spins a single season of twenty-six episodes out of intricately drawn characters whose inner lives drive each tale. Radhika Apte anchors the series as Binodini, appearing across every episode, while Sumeet Vyas, Tara Alisha Berry and Bhanu Uday carry notable supporting arcs as Behari, Ashalata and Mahen. Each story is a self-contained portrait of love, longing, marriage and social obligation, unfolding through domestic rooms, courtyards and quiet confrontations rather than grand set pieces. The engine is emotional rather than plot-heavy: a character wants something they are not permitted to name, and the surrounding family and conventions press in on every choice. Basu's direction favors patient framing and expressive performances, giving the series a restrained, wistful register. Viewers who love literary drama, period-flavored Indian storytelling or the intimacy of Tagore's prose will find much to savour. Fans of Devdas and of literary anthologies will find resonance in its melancholy and moral precision.

• Black Mirrorshared intimate character-driven anthology drama with literary roots and emotional restraint
• Masterpiece Theatreshared literary adaptation of classic stories with period-feeling human drama
