Famous in Love

Ordinary college student Paige gets her big break after auditioning for the starring role in a Hollywood blockbuster. She must now navigate her new star-studded life and the highs and lows that come with being the new It Girl in town as well as balancing her college workload.

Famous in Love (2017-2018) is an American young adult soap drama created by I. Marlene King and Rebecca Serle for Freeform. Bella Thorne plays Paige Townsend, an ordinary college student whose audition for the lead in a Hollywood blockbuster abruptly turns her life upside down. Charlie DePew appears as Jake Salt, and Carter Jenkins as Rainer Devon, while Perrey Reeves plays Nina Devon and Jeannie Mai plays herself, all woven into the glossy social world Paige suddenly inhabits. The engine of the series is her struggle to keep up with early-morning film shoots, campus deadlines and the press, while navigating romantic rivalries, business deals and friendships that fray under the pressure of celebrity. Each episode layers personal feuds, publicity stunts and public appearances over a continuing storyline, so the season arcs follow Paige's rise through the industry in a serialized format. Hollywood provides a backdrop of premieres, parties and studio politics, with a sun-washed, upbeat register that keeps the drama light even when the stakes feel high. The tone is breezy and glamorous with a streak of melodrama, and fans of Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars and Entourage will find the same appetite for sleek young-adult excess and industry gossip. Its two seasons of twenty episodes in total, set in the present day, give the show a compact run that feels complete as a fizzy, binge-friendly guilty pleasure.

Critics and audiences found the show a glossy, familiar fame-and-Hollywood soap that held attention despite a formulaic premise and a weaker second season.
