Şubat

An orphan subjected to tests that gave him superpowers is rescued and raised on Istanbul's streets, where he falls for a reporter linked to his past.

Şubat (2012-2013) is a Turkish television science fiction drama series created by Funda Alp for TRT 1, a single-season run of thirty-two episodes of roughly eighty-five minutes each. Alican Yücesoy plays Şubat, an orphan whose childhood was shaped by tests that gave him extraordinary powers, and who is rescued and raised on the crowded streets of Istanbul. Melisa Sözen plays Yağmur, the reporter whose connection to his buried past pulls him toward her, while Serkan Ercan appears as Komiser Arif, a police officer whose investigations keep brushing against the truth. Musa Uzunlar and Ülkü Duru round out the principal cast. The engine of the show is simple and personal: Şubat wants a life beyond the secrets that were built into him, while the people who made him and the institutions that protect them stand in his way. Each stretch of the season moves through street-level danger, shifting alliances and the slow unveiling of what the experiments really were. Set in present-day Istanbul, the tone is brooding and emotionally charged, with a romantic thread running through the grit and mystery. Fans of Heroes, Alias and Dark Angel will find resonance in its blend of hidden-origin superpowers, conspiracy and a serialized mystery anchored in a city that feels lived in.
