The Perfect Insider (2015) is a Japanese anime mystery series produced by A-1 Pictures and broadcast on Fuji TV, running eleven episodes of about twenty-three minutes each. College professor Souhei Saikawa (voiced by Yasuyuki Kase) is obsessed with the work of the reclusive genius Shiki Magata (Ibuki Kido), and when he and his student Moe Nishinosono (Atsumi Tanezaki) plan a retreat to the remote island where Magata lives, the trip places the group in danger. Saikawa and his students must untangle a deadly puzzle on an isolated research island where every character has something to hide. Each episode builds the mystery through careful clues, misdirection and sharp dialogue, and the story unfolds as a single continuing investigation rather than separate cases. The tone is cool, cerebral and unsettling, with a melancholy undercurrent around the island's obsessive intellectual world. Its grim moments and disturbing imagery set it apart from lighter puzzle shows. Fans of Death Note, Zero Escape and closed circle whodunits will find a similar appetite for brainy deduction and paranoia.

• Death Noteshared psychological mystery tone, closed-circle island murder setting, cerebral genius detective dynamic
• Mirai Nikkishared isolated institution setting, cerebral puzzle mystery, genius-driven investigation
• Zero Escape: The Nonary Gamesshared closed-room mystery structure, eccentric genius suspect, cerebral whodunit tone
