Scissor Seven

Seeking to recover his memory, a scissor-wielding, hairdressing, bungling quasi-assassin stumbles into a struggle for power among feuding factions.

Scissor Seven (2018-2024) is a Chinese donghua wuxia action comedy series created by Xiaofeng He for iQiyi, Youku, bilibili and Tencent Video. Its protagonist, a scissor-wielding hairdresser who is also a bungling quasi-assassin, is voiced by Xiaofeng He, and he is trying to recover his lost memory while stumbling through a struggle for power among rival factions. Duan Yixuan voices Meihua Shisan, a figure tied to the wider conflict, and Jiang Guangtao voices Qingfeng, adding weight to the ensemble. Each episode of this five-season serialized saga pairs brisk, sharply staged martial arts fights with deadpan slapstick, so a clumsy haircut or a botched assignment can turn into a lethal duel. The story builds steadily across seasons, with the protagonist's quest for his past running beneath the political maneuvering. The tone blends breezy humor with wistful undertones and moments of genuine danger, and the animation carries a stylized, colorful look. Fans of Kung Fu Panda, The Legend of Qin and Samurai Champloo will find resonance in its mix of comedy, swordplay and an underdog hero. The series is fully animated, a cel-style production set in an invented wuxia world rather than any real historical period.

Audiences broadly acclaim the series for its inventive blend of wuxia action, bumbling comedy and a mystery about the protagonist's lost memory, though later seasons drew noticeably weaker reactions.
