Overview
More than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, the remnants of humanity inhabit a gigantic, perpetually-moving train that circles the globe as class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival play out.
Snowpiercer (2020-2024) is an American science fiction drama series created by Graeme Manson and Josh Friedman, produced for TNT and AMC and based on a graphic novel. More than seven years after a failed climate experiment has frozen the planet, the last survivors ride a gigantic perpetually moving train that circles the globe. Daveed Diggs plays Andre Layton, a detective whose investigation into a murder exposes the carefully enforced caste system running from the luxurious front cars to the squalid tail. Jennifer Connelly plays Melanie Cavill, a powerful figure who keeps the train's order intact, while Mickey Sumner plays Bess Till, a tail-section woman drawn into the uprising. Across four seasons of ten episodes each, the story moves forward as one continuing narrative, with each car revealing new social injustice and each stage of the journey demanding harder choices. The atmosphere is oppressive and bleak, with a mood of grim endurance, paranoia and fragile hope. Fans of The 100, Terra Nova and Dark Matter will find resonance in its blend of post-apocalyptic survival, serialized dystopian drama and class conflict.
