The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair

A writer gets caught up in a murder investigation involving his mentor, an esteemed American author. Based on the book of the same name, by Joël Dicker.

The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair (2018) is an American-French limited series created by Richard Levine and Lyn Greene for Sky Witness, adapted from Joël Dicker's bestselling novel. Ben Schnetzer plays Marcus Goldman, a young novelist whose career stalls until he turns to his famous mentor, celebrated author Harry Quebert (Patrick Dempsey), after a body is found buried in the garden of Quebert's seaside Maine home. Damon Wayans Jr. stars as Sgt. Perry Gahalowood, a local detective whose investigation pushes Marcus deeper into a town that prefers its polite surfaces undisturbed. The engine of the story is Marcus's stubborn research, interviewing residents, rereading old letters and manuscripts, and chasing a decades-old disappearance while the police and the townspeople close ranks. Across ten episodes of a single continuing story, the show alternates a present-day inquiry with the summer that changed everyone, building a mystery that is less about a single culprit than about how literary ambition, loyalty and guilt tangle together. Its tone is brooding and wistful, with a coastal melancholy and a steady current of unease that suits viewers who enjoy a slow burn. Fans of Twin Peaks, Broadchurch and Mare of Easttown will find resonance in its small community secrets and its patient unravelling of a whodunit.

Audiences rate the miniseries positively as a gripping, twisty murder mystery adapted from Joël Dicker's bestselling novel.
