Like, la Leyenda

The experiences of a group of young people interned at the Life Institute of Knowledge and Evolution (LIKE), a prestigious and cosmopolitan educational institution, with a supposedly modern and open educational system, but in reality it is deeply traditional and schematic.

Like, la Leyenda (2018-2019) is a Mexican teen telenovela created by Pedro Damián for Las Estrellas. Its ensemble follows young people interned at the LIKE institute, a cosmopolitan, prestigious school that advertises a modern, open curriculum while enforcing a deeply traditional and rigid order. Roberta Damián plays Antonia De Haro, Mauricio Abad plays Ulises Reyes, Macarena García plays Machu Salas, and Santiago Achaga plays Claudio Meyer, with Alejandra Müller, Carlos Said and Anna Iriyama among the wider cast. The engine is the friction between the students' desires for love, belonging and independence and the institution's stern schedules and hidden expectations. Each episode is built from campus scenes, rivalries, secret attractions and confrontations with teachers, all carried in the heightened, emotionally direct register of a soap. Its single season of 97 episodes was canceled with its story left open. Fans of Rebelde, Elite and Gossip Girl will find resonance in its mix of teen romance, class-tinged intrigue and institutional drama, delivered with the melodramatic style of Latin American television.

Audiences rated the single season well while the overall reception stayed mixed, with its telenovela-style teen melodrama appealing to fans of the genre.
