Meet Me After School

Emotions resurface when a school teacher and her former student reconnect three years after sharing a forbidden attraction that scarred them both.

Meet Me After School is a Japanese romance drama that follows Hijiri Suenaga, a schoolteacher whose life is unsettled when former student Akira Kuroiwa returns three years after a forbidden attraction scarred them both. Their reunion stirs guilt, private longing and awkward encounters, while colleagues and old classmates become entangled in the lingering consequences of that past affair. The series unfolds in a contemporary school and urban Japan, where the ordinary routines of teaching, work and friendship sit beside emotionally raw confrontations. Its tone is melancholic and intimate, with a tense undercurrent of regret, and it lingers on silences and hesitations rather than grand gestures. Viewers drawn to forbidden love stories, bittersweet romance and quiet character study will find its focus on memory, desire and unfinished feelings especially resonant. Across its single season it trades in mature emotional stakes and the difficult question of whether two people can move past a wound they once caused each other.

• Hana Yori DangoBoth are Japanese romance dramas built on lingering feelings, regret, and an unresolved past between two people
