Bless This Mess

After dropping everything to make the move from skyscrapers to farmhouses, Rio and Mike soon realize that the simpler life isn't as easy as they planned.

Bless This Mess (2019-2020) is an American single-camera sitcom created by Lake Bell and Elizabeth Meriwether for ABC. Lake Bell plays Rio Levine-Young and Dax Shepard plays her husband Mike, a couple who give up their busy city life for a farmhouse and quickly discover that the simpler life is not as easy as they imagined. Their engine is the gap between romantic idealism and the daily grind of rural work, as each episode builds from small household mishaps, neighborly friction and misjudged attempts at self-sufficiency. Lennon Parham and David Koechner play the Bowmans, a neighboring couple whose easy confidence sharpens the comedy, while Pam Grier brings sharp wit as Constance and Ed Begley Jr. adds gruff warmth as Rudy. The series runs for two seasons and twenty-six episodes, a case-of-the-week domestic comedy rather than a serialized drama. It carries the gentle, comforting register of a classic family sitcom, with a fish out of water premise that stays affectionate toward its characters. Fans of Green Acres, Mike and Molly and The Goldbergs will find similar warmth in its marital banter and small-town comedy.
