Nobody's Looking

A new guardian "angelus" uncovers a secret behind the Angelus System's bureaucracy that leads him to break its official rules about protecting humans.

Nobody's Looking (Ninguém Tá Olhando, 2019) is a Brazilian fantasy comedy miniseries created by Daniel Rezende, Carolina Markowicz and Teo Poppovic and released on Netflix. Victor Lamoglia plays Uli, a guardian angel who uncovers a secret hidden inside the Angelus System's bureaucracy and begins breaking its official rules about protecting humans. Júlia Rabello as Greta, Danilo de Moura as Chun and Kéfera Buchmann as Miriam orbit him, and Leandro Ramos, Telma Souza and Projota fill out the supporting cast. The engine of the show is simple: an angel wants to do his job properly, but the paperwork, the superiors and the mundane demands of earthly life keep getting in the way. Each of its eight short episodes, about twenty minutes apiece, mixes office satire with supernatural mischief in modern Brazil. The tone is irreverent and dry, with absurd bureaucratic detail played straight. Fans of Good Omens, The Good Place and Dead Like Me will find resonance in its blend of heavenly administration and sardonic everyday comedy. A single-season limited run that ends without resolving its central mystery.

• Good Omensabsurdist workplace comedy about bureaucracy, offbeat supernatural premise
• Dead Like Mesupernatural bureaucracy comedy with a rule-bending heavenly office
• The Good Placesatirical afterlife office comedy with dry deadpan tone
