Reservation Dogs

Four Indigenous teenagers in rural Oklahoma steal, rob and save in order to get to the exotic, mysterious and faraway land of California.

Reservation Dogs (2021-2023) is a Hulu comedy-drama series created by Taika Waititi and Sterlin Harjo. Set on a rural Oklahoma reservation, it follows four Indigenous teenagers, led by Elora Danan Postoak (Devery Jacobs), Bear Smallhill (D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai), Cheese (Lane Factor) and Willie Jack (Paulina Alexis), who steal, rob and scheme to raise the money and nerve needed to reach the far-off dream of California. Their plans are small, practical and often clumsy, and each episode is built from everyday jobs, petty crimes and run-ins with local adults such as Big (Zahn McClarnon) and Bear's mother Rita Smallhill (Sarah Podemski). The series runs for three seasons and twenty-eight episodes as one continuing story with a loose, road-trip momentum. Its tone is deadpan and wry, yet warm, grief-tinged and tender about friendship, family and community. The look is unhurried and observational, and the humor comes from character rather than gags. Fans of Atlanta, Superbad and Parks and Recreation will find resonance in its blend of comedy, heart and youthful outsider energy.

Acclaimed for its sharp, funny and tender portrait of Indigenous teens in rural Oklahoma, with a distinctive voice and strong ensemble performances.
