Triad Princess

After jostling her way into a gig as a celebrity bodyguard, the boisterous daughter of a powerful triad boss shakes up a TV star's life and finds love.

Triad Princess (2019) is a Taiwanese romantic comedy series created by Neal Wu and released on Netflix. Eugenie Liu plays Angie Ni, the boisterous daughter of a powerful triad boss who talks her way into a job as a celebrity bodyguard. Her new assignment puts her in the orbit of a television star, played by Jasper Liu as Xu Yi-hang, and their clashing personalities turn every protective shift into a comedy of errors. Tien Hsin as Sophia Kwong and Cecilia Choi as Ling Yun add rival and friendship dynamics around the star's glossy entertainment world, while Michael Huang as Ni Kun brings the family's underworld pressure into the mix. The engine of the series is simple: Angie wants to prove she can handle real work outside her father's shadow, and each episode piles new mishaps, undercover disguises and awkward encounters onto her job. Told in six episodes of roughly forty-five minutes, it is a short, self-contained single season that moves briskly from one scrape to the next. The tone stays light and breezy, with romantic tension, playful banter and gentle gangster trappings. Fans of Crazy Rich Asians and The Bodyguard will find a similar mix of glamour, mismatched romance and class-crossing comedy.

• Crazy Rich Asiansshared romcom tones, celebrity romance, and light crime-family backdrop
• The Bodyguardshared bodyguard romance premise with a star and a mismatched protagonist
• Meteor Garden (2018)shared Asian romantic comedy tone with an undercover gangster-family twist
