Tutunamayanlar

Tutunamayanlar (The Misfits) is a 2020 Turkish absurdist dark comedy set in a quirky Istanbul neighborhood. Tarık — a man who has never held a job in his life — falls head over heels for İrem during a job interview. With nowhere else to go, İrem moves into his neighborhood and begins working at the local book café. What follows is a sharply funny, offbeat slice-of-life comedy about misfits, lovable losers, and the chaotic beauty of going nowhere fast.

The Misfits (Tutunamayanlar, 2020) is a Turkish absurdist dark comedy series created by Osman Nail Doğan for TRT 1. Doğu Demirkol plays Tarık Şakrak, a man who has never held a job and who falls head over heels for İrem, played by Ece Çeşmioğlu, during a job interview. With nowhere else to go, İrem moves into his quirky Istanbul neighborhood and takes work at the local book café, drawing Tarık into a circle of eccentric neighbors. Zafer Algöz, Barış Yıldız and Asuman Dabak round out a cast of family members and local characters whose schemes and dead-end ambitions push the story forward episode by episode. Rather than a plot-heavy engine, the show runs on everyday mishaps, awkward romance and small neighborhood rivalries, unfolding as a loose slice-of-life sequence across a single nineteen-episode season. The mood is wry and warm, with a sharp streak of deadpan humor that finds beauty in characters going nowhere fast. Set in present-day Istanbul, it is a compact, offbeat comedy for viewers who enjoy the affectionate absurdity of Atlanta and Louie, or the scruffy romantic drift of Girls. It suits fans of quirky ensemble comedy looking for a single-season Turkish series that is funny, melancholic and unhurried.

• Atlantashared absurdist dark comedy tone and lovable loser ensemble of an urban neighborhood
• Girlsshared quirky slice-of-life comedy about aimless characters drifting through a city neighborhood
• Louieshared offbeat workplace-adjacent comedy centered on a charmingly unemployable protagonist
