Love Life

A romantic comedy anthology series which follows a different protagonist each season on the journey from first love to last love, with each half-hour episode chronicling one of their relationships.

Love Life (2020-2021) is an American romantic comedy anthology series created by Sam Boyd for HBO Max. Each season follows a different protagonist through a chain of half-hour relationships, tracing the path from first love to last love. In season one, Anna Kendrick plays Darby Carter, a woman whose romantic life unfolds across a string of dates, flings, and serious partnerships, while William Jackson Harper appears as Marcus Watkins, one of the men she meets along the way. Each episode is built around one relationship, with its own rise, complications, and quiet ending, so the stakes feel personal rather than plot driven. A recurring narrator voice-over, delivered by Lesley Manville and Keith David, frames each story as a meditation on how love begins and fades. The overall register is intimate, witty, and wistful, with adult humor and frank sexual content that suits viewers who like honest relationship comedy. Fans of Modern Love, Easy and Catastrophe will find resonance in its blend of sharp dialogue, warm observation, and bittersweet romantic realism. The series ran for two seasons and twenty episodes before it was canceled.

Audiences find the anthology's romantic comedy vignettes warm and intimate, with the first season rated more favorably than the second.
