Jeeves and Wooster

Jeeves and Wooster is a British comedy-drama series adapted by Clive Exton from P.G. Wodehouse's "Jeeves" stories. It aired on the ITV network from 1990 to 1993, starring Hugh Laurie as Bertie Wooster, a young gentleman with a "distinctive blend of airy nonchalance and refined gormlessness", and Stephen Fry as Jeeves, his improbably well-informed and talented valet. Wooster is a bachelor, a minor aristocrat and member of the idle rich. He and his friends, who are mainly members of The Drones Club, are extricated from all manner of societal misadventures by the indispensable valet, Jeeves. The stories are set in the United Kingdom and the United States in the 1930s.

Jeeves and Wooster (1990-1993) is a British period comedy series adapted by Clive Exton from P.G. Wodehouse's Jeeves stories, produced for ITV. Hugh Laurie plays Bertie Wooster, a young bachelor and minor aristocrat whose airy nonchalance and refined gormlessness repeatedly land him in trouble, and Stephen Fry plays Jeeves, his improbably well-informed and resourceful valet. Bertie's world is the Drones Club and the circles of the idle rich, where his friends stumble into romantic entanglements, social blunders and schemes that only the indispensable Jeeves can untangle. Each episode is a self-contained farce of misunderstandings, engagements threatened and reputations at risk, carried by sparkling dialogue and the crisp rapport between the two leads. The four-season run spans 23 episodes of roughly fifty-five minutes each, set in 1930s Britain and the United States. The tone is breezy, witty and affectionate, a polished comedy of manners with a warm period atmosphere. Fans of Blackadder, Upstairs, Downstairs and Fawlty Towers will find resonance in its class-conscious humour and the pleasure of a clever servant outwitting his employer's chaos.

Audiences broadly acclaim the series for its witty adaptation of Wodehouse and the sparkling pairing of Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry.
