What critics said
Critics found the sequel commercially agreeable and buoyed by its veteran stars, but broadly regarded it as contrived and less coherent than its charm suggested.
What sets it apart
May contain story progression spoilers
Max Goldman and John Gustafson have spent 35 years fighting, trading pranks, and remaining inseparable.
The elusive smiling Catfish Hunter dominates local fishing talk and becomes a repeated source of comic fixation.
Max is pushed to reconsider his solitary life when a new bait-shop owner enters his orbit, while John is newly married to Ariel.
The fabled Catfish Hunter is established early as an impossible fishing target and recurs as a plot-driving comic motif.
