Liaison

Two agents—and former lovers—must work together to combat international cyberattacks threatening the UK while also confronting the buried secrets of their destructive relationship.

Liaison (2023) is a French-British co-production spy thriller miniseries created by Virginie Brac and Oliver Butcher and distributed on Apple TV. Across six hour-long episodes, intelligence agents Alison Rowdy (Eva Green) and Gabriel Delage (Vincent Cassel), former lovers, are forced into an uneasy partnership to track down a wave of international cyberattacks threatening the United Kingdom. Their investigation pulls them through hacking networks, private contractor interests and government corridors, where every lead raises the question of who can be trusted. Peter Mullan and Daniel Francis add weight as officials caught in the same web, while the buried secrets of the couple's destructive relationship surface alongside the operational danger. The engine is a race to uncover a mole and a digital threat before infrastructure fails, with each episode tightening the pressure. Set in present-day Europe and London, the series moves with a tense, paranoid rhythm and a glossy, rain-washed sense of unease. Fans of Spooks, Hunted and Bodyguard will find resonance in its British intelligence world, conspiracy plotting and fraught personal entanglements.

Critics found the spy thriller conventional, with its geopolitical framing and cyber-terror plot drawing mixed reactions, though the lead performances and tense action were widely admired.
