Insomniacs After School

Ganta Nakami is a high school student who suffers from insomnia. He meets Isaki Magari, a girl with the same condition. A relationship forms as they share a secret and catch up on their sleep in their school’s abandoned observatory.

Insomniacs After School (2023) is a Japanese anime slice of life romance series created for TV Tokyo, adapted from a seinen manga and produced by LIDENFILMS. High school student Ganta Nakami (voiced by Gen Sato) suffers from chronic insomnia until he meets Isaki Magari (voiced by Konomi Tamura), a classmate who shares the same condition. Their fragile connection forms around a secret arrangement: the two sneak into the school's abandoned observatory, where they can finally catch up on sleep together. The engine of the series is quiet, mounting closeness, with each episode built from small everyday school moments, the awkwardness of teenage feelings, and the slow weight of exhaustion that keeps the pair on the edges of their classmates' lives. Across a single thirteen-episode season, the story unfolds at an unhurried pace, a gentle and wistful register tinged with melancholy and hope. Its astronomy motif and nighttime atmosphere give it a dreamy, hushed quality. Fans of Horimiya, Your Lie in April and Scum's Wish will find resonance in its tender, understated romance and its portrait of youthful loneliness.

Audience reception is positive, with viewers praising the gentle romance and the quiet, sleep-centered premise.
