The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses

Komura starts his school year with a new seat neighbor in homeroom—the bespectacled Mie. Before long, he's nursing a raging crush on his quirky classmate who's always forgetting her glasses! While this might be ideal for Komura to get to know Mie better, will his poor heart give out from the daily strain of being up close and personal with the girl he likes?!

The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses (2023) is a Japanese animated romantic comedy series created as an anime adaptation for TOKYO MX. Across a single thirteen-episode season of roughly twenty-four minutes each, the story follows Kaede Komura (voiced by Masahiro Ito), a nervous student who lands a new homeroom seat beside Mie (voiced by Shion Wakayama), a quirky classmate who constantly forgets her glasses. Komura's engine is simple and relatable: he wants to get closer to her without embarrassing himself, but every close encounter threatens to overwhelm his poor heart. Each episode is built from small everyday school moments, with supporting classmates such as Asuka Kawato (voiced by Aya Uchida) and Maho Toyama (voiced by Minori Suzuki) adding gentle chaos around the pair. Set in a contemporary Japanese middle school, the series is a light, sweet slice of life with a warm, flustered register. Its humor comes from nervous self-doubt and the awkward intimacy of sharing a desk. Fans of Horimiya and Kaguya-sama: Love Is War will find resonance in its tender, anxious romance and its affectionate look at early crushes.

Audiences find the awkward, tender crush dynamic between its leads charming and relatable, though the mixed audience rating reflects a modest overall response.
