Misión S.O.S

The story follows the life of Diana, a pre-teen who lives in a neighborhood called Buenaventura. Diana and Christian, who has just moved to Mexico due to his parents' divorce, quickly become best friends, despite their families hatred for each other. However, the neighbors of Buenaventura are in danger of losing their homes, their school and much more, because the evil old Severiano plans to tear down the neighborhood and build an enormous shopping mall in its place. To accomplish his plan, Severiano is willing to resort to any means, and will provoke a series of disasters to drive the inhabitants away.

Misión S.O.S (2004-2005) is a Mexican telenovela for Las Estrellas, a family-oriented soap that runs 125 episodes of about forty minutes in a single season. Pre-teen Diana (Maribel Guardia's storyline anchors the adult cast alongside Guillermo Capetillo as Salvador Martinez) lives in the close-knit neighborhood of Buenaventura, where she forms a deep friendship with Christian, a boy who has just moved to Mexico after his parents' divorce, even though their families despise one another. The engine of the show is a community under siege: the evil old Severiano (Manuel Ojeda) plans to tear down Buenaventura and replace it with an enormous shopping mall, and he is willing to provoke one disaster after another to drive residents from their homes and school. Each stretch of episodes moves through melodramatic setbacks, rival households, sudden reversals and small acts of neighborly loyalty, with the children's bond carrying the emotional warmth. The series is a gentle, sentimental blend of soap opera romance and family comedy, and its community-versus-developer conflict gives it a hopeful, earnest register. Viewers who enjoy Carrusel, Rebelde and other Latin American family telenovelas will recognize its heightened emotions, its strong moral lines between kind neighbors and a scheming villain, and its focus on young love and loyalty.

Audiences gave Misión S.O.S a mixed but warm reception, valuing its family-friendly neighborhood drama and the bond between its young leads.
