Overview
Typical teenager Sam Collins and his friends secretly fight virus monsters by transporting themselves into the computer.
Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad (1994-1995) is an American children's action adventure series created by Jymn Magon for ABC and syndication, produced with DiC and Tsuburaya Productions. Matthew Lawrence plays Sam Collins, a typical teenager who secretly becomes Servo, joining his friends Sydney Forrester (Robin Mary Florence), Tanker (Kevin Castro) and Amp Ere (Troy Slaten) in a battle against virus monsters. The engine is simple and playful: the team transports themselves into the computer, where they fight digital threats while trying to keep their everyday lives and families from noticing. Tim Curry voices Kilokahn, the villainous force behind the viruses, while Kath Soucie plays Sam's mother Elizabeth Collins and Glen Beaudin plays the rival Malcolm Frink. The series runs for one season of 53 twenty-minute episodes, each a self-contained monster-of-the-week story rather than a continuing epic. Its tone is cheerful and brisk, with bright colors and a Saturday morning energy. Set in a present-day American suburb and in the bright grid of cyberspace, it carries the flavor of tokusatsu superhero heroics. Fans of Power Rangers, ReBoot and VR Troopers will find familiar pleasures here.
