SSSS.GRIDMAN

Yuta Hibiki can’t remember who he is, and now he’s seeing and hearing things that others don’t! A voice from an old computer tells him to remember his calling, and he sees a massive, unmoving creature in the distance. Nothing’s making sense—until the behemoth springs to life! Suddenly, Yuta is pulled into a computer, reappearing in reality as the colossal hero—Gridman!

SSSS.GRIDMAN (2018) is a Japanese anime series produced by TRIGGER and Tsuburaya Productions, airing on WOWOW Prime as a single-season, twelve-episode run. Yuta Hibiki (voiced by Yuya Hirose) cannot remember who he is, and he begins to see and hear things others cannot, until a voice from an old computer urges him to remember his calling. Pulled into a computer world, he reappears in the real world as the colossal hero Gridman (voiced by Hikaru Midorikawa), fighting kaiju-scale monsters that threaten the city. Alongside him are Akane Shinjou (Reina Ueda), Rikka Takarada (Yume Miyamoto) and Sho Utsumi (Soma Saito), whose own roles tangle with the digital world and its hidden rules. Each episode mixes sharp mecha and kaiju spectacle with a puzzle about what is real and what is simulated. The engine is simple: a hero who must recover his past while holding the line against enemies that keep coming. The look is bold and stylized, with glowing digital landscapes set against familiar streets. The tone blends wistful identity questions with brisk, cathartic battles. Fans of Ultraman, Evangelion and Digimon Adventure will find resonance here in its blend of tokusatsu spectacle and digital mystery, a compact series built for viewers who enjoy giant robots and monster fights.

Audiences rate the series as mixed-to-positive, praising its nostalgic kaiju and mecha homage and its blend of computer-world mystery with heroic spectacle.
