Puckworld is home to a race of hockey-loving humanoid ducks. When the sinister Dragaunus takes over the planet, a band of determined rebels, The Mighty Ducks, manage to chase him from the planet. The Ducks form a hockey team and build a secret base under the Anaheim Pond so they can continue to fight Dragaunus and hopefully find a way home.
Mighty Ducks: The Animated Series (1996-1997) is a American animated science fiction sports adventure series created by Marty Isenberg, Robert N. Skir and David Wise for ABC and syndication. Set in a mix of the planet Puckworld and present-day Anaheim, California, it follows Wildwing, a hockey-loving humanoid duck leading a band of rebels that includes Duke, Nosedive, Grin, Mallory and Tanya, voiced by Ian Ziering, Jeff Bennett, Steve Mackall, Brad Garrett, Jennifer Hale and April Winchell. Their goal is to overthrow the sinister tyrant Lord Dragaunus, voiced by Tim Curry, and find a way back home after a dimensional portal strands them on Earth. Each episode mixes sports competition with covert resistance, as the team forms a hockey club and hides a secret base under the Anaheim Pond. The single season of twenty-six episodes runs on a light, colorful, action-driven register with bright comedy and buddy banter. Fans of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Biker Mice from Mars will find resonance in its blend of cartoon heroics, fish-out-of-water humor and earnest team loyalty.
