Lord of the Mysteries

In a Victorian world of steam, dreadnoughts, and occult horrors, Zhou Mingrui awakens as Klein Moretti. He walks a razor’s edge between light and darkness, entangled with warring Churches. This is the legend of unlimited potential…and unspeakable danger.

Lord of Mysteries (2025-present) is a Chinese animated fantasy mystery series produced by Tencent Video, adapted from the web novel by China Literature and created by Cuttlefish That Loves Diving. The story follows Zhou Mingrui, who awakens in a new body as Klein Moretti, voiced by Yang Kaiqi, in a Victorian world of steam engines, dreadnoughts and occult horrors. Klein's engine is survival and a search for his own unlimited potential, as he is pulled into the orbit of rival churches whose hidden agendas place him between light and darkness. Supporting voice performances from Lei Wu as Dunn Smith and Titus Jin as Leonard Mitchell anchor his circle of allies and rivals, while Li Haojia, Qian Chen and others widen the web of secrets. Each episode unspools a new layer of conspiracy, with mysterious tarot-linked powers and dangerous rituals driving the plot forward. Its tone is atmospheric and brooding, with moments of wry humour and a sense of wonder at the strange machinery of its world. Fans of Penny Dreadful and Castlevania will find resonance in its gaslit occult dread and grand fantasy scale, while those drawn to Avatar: The Last Airbender will appreciate its mythic sweep. The first season, a thirteen-episode run, delivers a densely layered mystery that rewards close attention and invites viewers into an ongoing saga.

Viewers broadly acclaim this animated adaptation of a Chinese web novel for its inventive mystery, rich Victorian fantasy world, and striking visual craft, though its audience base is still small.
